Burst pipes and leaks
Water shows up a long way from where it started. Finding the actual source is most of the job, and it is the part that gets skipped.
When to call us
Not all of these are dramatic. The expensive ones usually are not.
-
01
A water bill that jumped
Nothing visible and the bill up is often a leak underground or under the slab. Turn every tap off and watch the meter: if it is still moving, water is going somewhere.
-
02
A tap that will not stop dripping
Usually a washer or a worn seat. Small job, and it wastes a genuinely surprising amount of water for as long as you leave it.
-
03
A damp patch, a stain, lifting paint
Water tracks along joists and studs and comes out at the first gap it finds. The room it appears in is often not the room it is coming from.
-
04
Water where it should not be, now
Turn the mains off at the meter first and then call. Everything after that is easier, cheaper and drier with the water off.
What is involved
-
01
We locate it
Meter, isolation valves and the pattern of where the water is showing. The aim is to open up one spot rather than three.
-
02
We isolate it
So you are not living without water across the whole house while the repair happens, where the plumbing allows for that.
-
03
It gets repaired
Repair or replace the affected section, depending on what the pipe is and what condition the rest of that run is in.
-
04
We check the rest of it
A failure in old pipework is often the first of several. If the rest of that run is on its way out, you should hear it from us now.
How a pipe actually fails
Corroded through from the inside out. By the time it shows as a leak the pipe has usually been going for a long time, which is why one failure in an old run is rarely the last.
What customers say
-
I am very happy with this company, I had a pipe that was leaking and Jonathan was prompt and very professional . He fixed the problem perfectly and left no mess. I will definitely be using them again!!
-
We had a leak which needed repairing since November. Since November, I’ve tried phoning so many plumbers who were either non-responsive or unreliable. In the end, we found Jonathon.
-
He advised on 2 basin plugs which were faulty + replaced washers in the shower taps. Work was very professional and prompt.
More leak work
-
Corrosion works from both sides. By the time it leaks the bore has usually been closing for years. -
Cut off at ground level. A failure in one spot on a run this old is rarely the last one.
Common questions
Can you find a leak you cannot see?
Usually, yes. The meter tells you whether water is being lost at all, and isolating sections tells you roughly where. That is what keeps a hidden leak from turning into three exploratory holes in a wall.
What do I do right now if a pipe has burst?
Turn the water off at the meter. It is normally a tap at the front of the property, and turning it clockwise stops everything. Then call. If water is anywhere near electrical fittings, keep away from them.
Is a dripping tap really worth calling about?
It is a small job and it is usually a washer. It also runs continuously, so it turns up on the bill, and a tap that has been dripping long enough can wear the seat it sits on into a bigger repair.
Do you repair the section or replace the pipe?
Whichever is honest for the pipe you have. A single failure in sound pipework is a repair. A failure in a run that is corroding along its length is a repair you will be paying for again, and we will say so.

If it is running now, ring: that is what the phone is for. If it can wait until morning, send a photo and where the water is coming from, and you get a written price before anything starts.
